How does Innotek keep my dog safe at home?
Smart Dog pet containment systems are sometimes known as in-ground fencing. Easily installed, they keep your dog safe at home but dont spoil or clutter your landscaping. Wire is used as a radio antenna around your property and plugs into a wall mounted transmitter creating an adjustable radio field. Your dog wears an electronic collar which picks up the signal when he approaches the boundary wire. He receives a "harmless" but "effective" stimulus which reminds him to stay within the boundary area or out of garden beds.
How simple is your system to install?
Any handyman can install - you only require simple household tools. (You do not need an electrician). We supply you with a training DVD and installation manual.
There are 3 parts to the In-ground pet fencing system:
- The Transmitter: This plugs into a standard outlet and emits a radio signal. We also have a solar power option if you are away from a power point.
- The Wire: Insulated wire that you can bury and connect to the transmitter that makes a boundary to contain your dog (like an invisible barrier).
- The Collar Receiver: The receiver is worn on your dogs collar. The transmitter emits a radio signal that travels through the wire. The receiver on your dogs collar picks up the radio signal and alerts the dog as he nears the boundary (buried wire). If the dog continues toward the boundary wire, he will receive a correction from the radio signal.
Does the wire need to be buried?
No, you can hang it onto your fence line with cable ties or similar. You can also bury it 1-2 to keep away from lawnmowers or whipper-snippers accidently cutting the wire. Also, under driveways (use a masonry blade on a circular saw, cut a groove, stick the wire in and seal back up) under gateways, creek-beds or even put in an old garden hose or plastic conduit.
Please explain how you train a dog to your system.
We supply you with a training DVD that leads you step-by-step through the process. You introduce the dog on a lead to the boundary which is marked with training flags. You are there to prevent him from panicking and possibly running through the field. Allow your dog to experience the negative stimulus and then offer treats and play time as a reward for returning to the safe area. You will need to do this 3 or 4 times at different places around the boundary. Your dog soon learns to stop before reaching the flags or when he hears the audible sound. After your dog learns to stay in his area, you can take away the flags.
How large an area can the system cover?
The signal on our containment systems will reach up to 25 acres, but you must have laid the wire equivalent. A general rule of thumb is a 500 metre roll of wire will cover 1 1/2 acres. The basic package includes a 100 metre roll which is enough for a typical suburban block. Make sure you pace out the distance before you start your installation.
How do I take my dog for walks outside the property?
Simply remove the e-collar, place your dogs walking collar on and lead him off the property, preferably through the same way each time. Your dog will learn that the only time he can exit the property is with his lead and master.
What is the difference between an electric fence and an Innotek pet containment system?
Many dogs can escape an electric fence and the stimulation is 3000 times greater the power of an electronic collar. Our systems provide an invisible barrier from 1-3 metres in all directions. Only the dog wearing the collar feels the stimulus, having the extra benefit of being safe for children. By comparison dogs learn how to go over, under or around electric fences.
How many dogs can I have on the system?
You can have as many dogs as you like - they just need an extra collar.
Can I also use the same Innotek collar for indoor pet barrier areas?
Our new Ultrasmart containment collar also works in conjunction with Zones indoor pet barrier system, allowing you to block-off rooms, keep animals off furniture, kitchen areas or anywhere you dont want them to go.
What is the advantage of your rechargeable collars?
Maintenance free - no batteries required. Our NiMh collars require charging overnight once every 3 months. You can set a reminder alarm on your transmitter. Lithium ion Ultrasmart recharge every 3 months but offer fast charging - only 3 hours. Add up the cost of batteries and you will find the rechargeables to be a cheaper and more reliable option.
Can I take the system with me if I move?
That is the advantage with our system - you cant take a fence with you! If you move or if you have a second property, all you require is extra wire.
Can cats be trained to your containment system?
Yes, we have many successful cat installations. Choose the SD-2100 rechargeable collars which offer you the smallest unit on the market. We have a special instruction sheet available for cat systems, so please ask us for a copy when ordering.
